Newsletter: November 2024

As we prepare to gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, it’s a time to reflect on the blessings of the past year and look forward to new opportunities ahead. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to work with all of you, and to support you in helping families find their perfect homes.

In the spirit of the season, I thought I’d take a moment to celebrate some of the special Thanksgiving traditions that make East Tennessee such a unique and beautiful place to call home.

When it comes to tradition, East Tennessee has a certain flavor, mixing Appalachian Heritage with Southern Hospitality. Here are just a few that I think are extra special:

  • The Southern Feast. In East Tennessee, Thanksgiving isn’t just about the turkey. It’s about an abundance of dishes made from scratch, and recipes handed down through the generations. These recipes might include buttermilk biscuits, chow-chow, and fried okra. What’s your favorite recipe that’s been handed down to you?
  • Outdoor Adventure. The cool, crisp weather of autumn provides the perfect setting to connect with nature and celebrate the season. The breathtaking scenery of the fall foliage is one of my favorites. I love the reds, oranges, and golds blanketing the Great Smoky Mountains. And this scenery offers some of the best hiking, fishing, and camping. What’s the activity that takes you outdoors on the holiday?
  • Community. Giving back is an integral part of Thanksgiving. In the true Appalachian spirit, it’s a time for helping those in need, and organizing meals to ensure everyone can enjoy the holiday with a warm, hearty plate of food that fills their bellies. Here in East Tennessee that’s what Thanksgiving is all about. How do you normally give back on this holiday?

As I reflect on the past year I am reminded of all you do, and I am grateful for your trust and collaboration. I am thankful for YOU!

I wish you and your loved ones a warm and joyful Thanksgiving. May your holiday be filled with good food, good company, and the spirit of gratitude that makes this season so special.

Here’s to a wonderful holiday!

With Gratitude,

John

Food For Thought:

What’s on the menu for a typical Thanksgiving meal in East Tennessee? Well…how about:

  • Turkey or ham – or both
  • Cornbread Dressing – definitely a must-have
  • Sweet Potato Casserole – cue the marshmallows
  • Green Bean Casserole – with loads of french fried onions
  • Hot buttered biscuits – bring on the honey
  • Pumpkin Pie – another must-have

Of course, there are many more favorites, and these just happen to be some of my own favorites. I’d sure like to know some of yours. And whatever your favorites, I’m wishing you a Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and the warmth of family and friends. I’m truly thankful for you and look forward to continuing this journey together!

Happenings:

Enjoy Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at the Clarence Brown Theatre. I know, I know, everyone has read the book or seen one of the many movies. But have you seen it performed live? This is a timeless story that has returned year after year for the past three decades! It’s become a family tradition in Knoxville. So get your tickets. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. And you’ll leave with a warm heart. What better way to make memories?
